Frequently Asked Questions:
Can We Visit Your Shelter?
We can arrange a meeting once your Application for a particular Animal is submitted and approved.
We however, make every effort to bring the animal to you. We strongly feel that a true interaction with your family members and pets can be a true test that a good fit will be met. An animal in the shelter surroundings can act completely differently than within a private home.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS TO ADOPT FROM YOUR ORGANIZATION?
We emphasize matching the right dog to the right family so that all will have many happy years together. Completing and submitting the adoption questionnaire is the first step and fastest way to beginning the adoption process. Additional steps, include: Phone Interview / Veterinary & Personal Reference Check / Home Visit with Completing The Final Adoption Contract.
WHAT IS YOUR ADOPTION FEE?
Our adoption fee varies depending on a few considerations, such as: Is the dog purebred or mixed breed? Also, additional medical fees that may be involved prior to adoption. Our fees are between $75.00 (senior dog) up to $400.00 (purebred). Our normal fee is usually $200.00
THE ADOPTION FEE SEEMS HIGH. WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?
Our operation runs solely on the adoption fees and the donations we receive from caring people like you. Dogs Etc. of Texas is a 501 (C) non profit family run shelter. We are not funded or subsidized by any State or Federal Agency. There are many costs involved in running our rescue, including: Veterinary care, transportation, food, kennel care, utilities & much more. ALL OUR ANIMALS ARE SPRAYED OR NEUTERED PRIOR TO ADOPTION. ADDITIONALLY, THEY ARE KEPT UP ON VACCINATIONS, TESTED FOR HEARTWORM & ARE MICROCHIPPED. The money we receive for adoption fees and donations barely covers the cost associated with rescuing animals and we use every penny to continue to rescue dogs in need.
WHERE DO YOUR DOGS COME FROM?
Loyal and loyal dogs turn up every day in North and Central Texas, as owners turn them in or they are found roaming the streets after being dumped. To the best of our abilities, we evaluate all of our animal's temperament and suitability for living with other dogs, cats & children. An animal's health is checked, and we make sure that they are up-to-date on all shots and are sprayed or neutered.
